Collaborating with John Turner Construction, BOYCO transformed Grappenhall Heys Primary School’s newly built extension, and refurbished Key Stage 2 classrooms with our award-winning fixed furniture solutions.
The extension is part of the school’s £3 million expansion project by Warrington Council, which focusses on investing in premium quality, energy efficient, and long-lasting solutions for students, teachers and support staff. Through this, an additional 210 school spaces for children in the surrounding area have been created.
After previously working with John Turner Construction on Kendal College, Team BOYCO looked forward to lending a helping hand again in this project. With over 60 years of expertise in fixed furniture solutions, we’re proud to be a trusted partner of John Turner Construction, and it was great to support them in delivering our high quality, and reliable solutions.
As part of our end-to-end project management service, we worked closely with the school and contractor to complete the extension installation in three phases, followed by the refurbishment of the classrooms. This was carefully coordinated to ensure minimal disruption whilst transforming the learning spaces.
To support student learning and development, Grappenhall Heys Primary School required resource areas. A must-have learning tool for both staff and students, it was important for the school to have a fixed furniture solution that provides storage, durability, and complements the surrounding aesthetic of the space.
1000mm Base Units were chosen in a contrasting light and dark grey. Neutral in colour, they add versatility to the wide range of decorations that are on the walls, easily blending with any colourful displays in the primary school. On top of this, 38mm Laminated Chipboard Worktop was attached, also in a grey tone. Thicker than traditional worktops, they provide a solid surface for student activities and everyday tasks, creating a fantastic lasting workstation. Laminated chipboard is also highly durable – it’s scratch, moisture, and stain resistant – protecting against any accidents or spills in the classroom.
As part of the project, cloakroom furniture was required for the infant and junior corridors, reception, and lobby. For all locations, our in-house designers recommended the shelf over spacesaver bench units. In addition to providing a bench area for the students to sit when taking off their coats or changing into indoor pumps, they also include a shoe shelf for ease of tidying away. The space saver design effectively doubles the number of available peg spaces per meter run, utilising space as much as possible.
T pegs were selected to compliment the benching units. One of BOYCO’s most popular furniture additions, it has been specially designed with one simple hook on the end – allowing ease of use for the primary school children who will be hanging bags and coats on them.
Per the BOYCO standard, all our metal work including the T pegs, is coated in our in-house pioneered ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon coating. 4 times thicker than powder coated alternatives, it provides unparalleled abrasion resistance perfect for the busy school environment where protection against scratches and scrapes is needed. The coating also boasts anti-microbial properties where 99% of all known bacteria cannot survive on its surface, a great addition for this high touch point area in the primary school.
All our in-house timber used in the cloakroom furniture offers anti-microbial properties too. Twice coated as standard in our lacquer, it adds another layer of protection for the students and staff, promotes a hygienic classroom environment, and meets the school’s strict safety standards.
Throughout the entire project, Team BOYCO and John Turner Construction visited site to ensure a seamless installation. Once completed, it was great to see the finished results – along with the full transformation of the school.
BOYCO is proud to once again work with John Turner Construction and we look forward to future collaborations. Along with this, we’re thrilled to provide fantastic storage and resource areas for Grappenhall Heys Primary School – supporting the learning of current and future students.
