In collaboration with Morgan Sindall, Team BOYCO supplied and installed our fixed furniture solutions at Millside Spencer Academy.
Tried and trusted for over 60 years, BOYCO provided our ‘built to last’ classroom and storage solutions for the Millside Academy. Teaming up with Morgan Sindall, who we have previously worked with on projects across the UK, we offered our expertise in end-to-end project management. From initial enquiry to design and then install, we ensured both high quality customer service and fantastic, finished results for the students and staff.
In this project, Team BOYCO supplied and installed the following fixed furniture for Millside Spencer Academy:
Millside Spencer Academy chose to have our WB inline peg rail in the Year 1 and 2 cloakroom. Wall fixed and delivered fully assembled, the peg rail utilises the space well and can adjusted to a lower height for young children to reach, as well as being quick to install.
Attached to the rail are BOYCO’s ‘unbreakable’ K pegs in dark grey. A great choice for the primary school, the rounded edges of the peg reduce the risk of injury when children are hanging items and supports the health and safety standards of Millside Spencer Academy.
The rail itself is made from Prime American White Ash and twice coated with anti-microbial lacquer. A standard hardwood, the combination of both the material and coating ensures durability and prevents the spread of 99% of all known bacteria, perfect for the high touchpoint area of the school cloakroom. Matching this, BOYCO’s K pegs are made from steel and coated with our ‘hot dip’ nylon – 4 times thicker than powder coated alternatives. This protects against any scratches or scrapes.
To offer further storage space, 4 Tier Wall Fixed shelving was installed. Like the peg rail, the shelving has been fixed to the wall which allows maximum use of wall space and utilises the full area, as well as providing easy access to educational resources. This prevents clutter, keeping the classroom tidy and organised. Manufactured from both our ‘hot dip’ nylon coated steel and MFC, it’s ‘built to last’ and able to withstand daily use, such as storing heavy textbooks, supplies, or teaching equipment securely.
In both the staff room and the classroom of the primary school, cupboard base units were installed as part of the Year 3 to 6 ‘wet areas’. Our in-house design team opted for a combination of lockable doors and soft close hinges; allowing teachers to lock items away if needed, whilst preventing doors slamming shut to protect the longevity of the furniture.
To complement the contemporary style of the school, grey cupboards were chosen with a light wood worktop. Sleek and modern, not only do the neutral tones create a calm yet focused feel, the wood adds warmth to the space, balancing the coolness of the grey to adding comfort to classroom space.
To the top of the cupboards is 25mm Laminated MDF ‘Econotop’ Work top with a PVC lip. A hardwearing yet cost effective surface, it’s ideal for the daily wear and tear of the busy learning space. It’s also easy to maintain; with the smooth surface enabling staff to quickly clean up any spills or mess that occur during the school day.
In the Science, Food Technology and DT rooms, Solid Grade Laminate ‘Trespa’ worktops were chosen due to the practical learning that will take place in the lessons, where both chemicals, heated equipment, and sharp tools will be used as part of learning. The SGL worktop can withstand this, due to it being both non-porous, chemical and heat resistant – ideal for heavy use in lessons.
Included in the wet area design were stainless-steel single drain sinks with mono mixer taps. They were selected due to the metal being highly resistant to corrosion, as well as being easy to clean and maintain, both of which are essential in high-traffic areas such as classrooms. The mono-mixer tap is a great choice for daily student use. It allows for easy temperature adjustment, making it safer when washing items such as art supplies or science equipment as the heat of the water can be easily controlled.
BOYCO visited Millside Spencer Academy and supported in project management throughout the transformation journey. The result was a fantastic full fit out of classrooms and staff spaces, ready for all to move in and learn.
Team BOYCO is proud to work with Morgan Sindall and look forward to completing further projects together in the future.
