Teaming up with Read Construction, Team BOYCO provided our fixed furniture solutions and end-to-end project management for the newly built teaching hub at Coleg Cambria’s Llysfasi campus.
The project involved replacing the existing building and carrying out a full internal renovation. Working closely with Read Construction, team BOYCO provided end-to-end project management, designing, manufacturing, and installing our tried-and-trusted FF&E solutions for the learning space.
Catering to different areas of the teaching hub, we developed solutions to support the daily needs of students, teachers, and support staff. This ranged from robust worktops in the classrooms to bespoke cupboard storage in the staff kitchen area.
Focusing on maximising space, durability, and the different area requirements, team BOYCO designed and installed the following fixed furniture solutions at the Llysfasi campus of Coleg Cambria:
As a storage solution for the teaching hub, BOYCO supplied and installed adjustable shelving in the cleaners' store and admin store.
Made from 18mm MFC, this versatile shelving is designed for easy reconfiguration, providing flexibility for teachers and support staff. It can be adjusted to accommodate items such as cleaning equipment or school administration materials as needed. The adjustable features ensure the shelving supports the evolving needs of the school and offers long-term usability at Llysfasi.
It was important for everyone working on the project that the worktops installed in the teaching hub catered to the subjects taught in each room.
Our team first focused on the laboratory space. As with other science-focused projects we've collaborated on, Trespa Top™ Solid Grade Laminate (SGL) worktops were selected. Offering unmatched durability and strength, SGL is highly resistant to heat and chemicals, perfect for the laboratory where equipment such as heavy microscopes are used. The non-porous surface also supports the cleaning practices of the teaching hub, as any accidental spills won’t stain and are easy to clean up.
Bespoke made, the worktop surrounding the sink also have an additional feature. For practicality, indented grooves were added to the surface next to the bowl. This is to drain water back into the sink when in use, keeping the area dry and clean.
In the classrooms and IT suites, Econotop™ worktops were installed. Made from 25mm laminated MDF and finished with a 2mm PVC edge, these worktops offer fantastic durability against daily use and are ideal for general-purpose classrooms.
Utilising both wall and floor space, double and single base cupboards, along with wall cupboards, were incorporated into the staff room and laboratory.
In the staff room, the cupboards were fitted with sage green doors. This colour was selected by our design team to create a calming and professional environment, perfect for the refreshment area for the teachers.
In the laboratory a different colour was chosen. The cupboards were designed with platinum white doors, providing a clean and modern finish to this space.
These durable storage solutions ensure that both staff and students have organised and accessible spaces, as well as supporting the daily demands of the learning environment.
Considering the practical needs of teachers and students in the laboratory, BOYCO installed Belfast sinks paired with goose-neck taps. This deep and robust sink provides a large amount of space compared to over the counter or under counter options. The high goose-neck taps allow for easy filling of containers no matter the size, and full control of water flow and temperature, which is important during science-based activities and learning.
