Background

The commercial property, located in Greater Manchester, has shared disabled toilet facilities. In response to updated accessibility guidelines and client requests, BOYCO was engaged to deliver a robust, durable grab rail systems across multiple areas.

Product Selection & Design

Working closely with the client, BOYCO recommended a combination of wall‑fixed grab rails and hinged grab rails from our specialist disabled grab rails range.

Key product features and design considerations included:

• All grab rails are coated using BOYCO’s “Hot‑Dip” nylon coating, offering antimicrobial protection and a warm touch (i.e. not cold to the touch), conforming with DOC M requirements.
• The coating contributes to durability, longevity, and hygiene, critical in a commercial washroom environment.
• A 10‑year guarantee is provided on all Hot‑Dip coated products, giving the client peace of mind for lifecycle maintenance.
• The hinged rails allow movement to enable clearance when not in use, useful in tight or variable‑use spaces.
• The wall‑fixed rails provide a rigid support option where movement is not required or desired.
• BOYCO’s design team produced detailed layout drawings showing optimal positioning relative to WC pans, wash basins, and walls, ensuring compliance with accessibility guidelines (heights, clearances, mounting strength).

Manufacture & Quality Assurance

Once the design was approved, BOYCO fabricated the grab rails in our very own UK-based manufacturing facility. Each rail underwent inspection to ensure the integrity of the Hot‑Dip coating, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish. Our quality protocols ensure consistency and conformance to specification before dispatch.

Installation & Fitting

BOYCO’s installation team worked on site under full coordination with the contractor’s schedule. Did you know that also provide our grab rails on a supply only basis for your own teams to fit?

Key fitting recommendations:

Securely anchor wall-fixed rails into structural walls or solid backing, using recommended load‑bearing fixings and ensuring correct embedment.

Install hinged rails on pivoting brackets with secure fixings, allowing them to fold upward or inward while still providing robust support when deployed.

Opt for grab rails with concealed fixings to match the rail aesthetic, minimising visual clutter and maintaining a clean modern look.

Installation was carried out with minimal disruption to building occupants, with works scheduled outside peak occupancy where possible.
